Home-based jobs are becoming very popular nowadays. Even professionals are now choosing to hold office in their home and work remotely. After all, working at home is far more convenient than having to travel to an office every day. You can also save a lot of money because you don’t have to spend on work clothes, gas money, daily lunch, etc.

Despite all the advantages of having a home-based job, there is a tendency for one to be just too comfortable at home. Losing focus is one of the challenges a home-based worker has to face each and every day. If you are currently working from home and you find yourself losing focus every now and then, here are tips that might just be able to help you out.

1. Have a designated work area.

Do not take over family areas such as your dining table or your living room. You must have your own designated work area such as a spare room or the far end of the living room. This way, you will not be distracted by family members who are going about their regular day and you keep your beautiful home. You can’t stop your kids from playing in the living area or your spouse to not have a snack at the dining table, right?

2. Follow a strict schedule.

One of the good things about working from home is that you’re ultimately your own boss. You can make your own schedule and you should follow it. If you say you’re working only from 9 to 5, do not go beyond that. When you’re too tired, there’s more chances you will lose your focus.

3. Keep your working area clean and organized.

Having a dirty working area is indeed very “disturbing”, for lack of a better word. You still can get distracted during the day. You can easily get your focus back by walking into another room for a few minutes, drink some water, brush your teeth or look at something blue or green. This relaxes you and gives you your focus back.

4. The temperature should be just right.

It shouldn’t be too hot or too cold. The temperature should be just right. It is best if you have a programmable thermostat installed in your working area, in fact in your entire home, so you don’t have to stand up each time you need to adjust the temperature. This is such an energy-saving feature too.

5. Remove all distractions.

Place your mobile phone elsewhere and there shouldn’t be a TV, gaming device or any other distracting object in your working area. Close all unneeded tabs in your computer and just get the job done.

6. List down your goals.

List down your daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals and make sure you achieve all of them. A checklist is good because you know if you’re actually making a progress. Knowing that you have things to do will help you keep your focus.

7. Remind yourself on what motivates you.

You know in your heart what actually motivates you—it could be a great summer vacation, a fat bank account, a nice car, your dream house, etc. You cannot have any of these if you don’t start working.
